Proposed Changes to DISCUS
The South Carolina House of Representatives members have rejected the Senate’s version of the budget for the South Carolina State Library, and have submitted an amendment to control the type of materials thatare purchased for DISCUS, this means that the budget will go to a conference committee for discussion.

This is the link to the "dashboard" for the House and Senate, if you would like to email:

Remember that we are asking for support for the Senate version of the State Library budget.  Here is what Jennifer Falvey from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School wrote, and will say when she calls:

Dear Sir,

I am writing to voice my support for the Senate version of the State Library budget. Respectfully, you MUST allow the State Library to continue to independently manage and fund the DISCUS resources provided for our state's school children.  This is a vital service, expertly curated, that no school could afford to pay for or organize on their own.  DISCUS was used 22 million times last year, and continues to be an essential research tool for our students. Wikipedia and open-web searches ARE NOT the same as the resources offered by DISCUS, and can never be a replacement for the vetted content DISCUS provides.  Additionally, the State librarians are the best choice to manage these resources, ensuring we provide the best tools to our state's schoolchildren as they navigate the potentially overwhelming sea of digital information.

Thank you for your efforts to ensure continued high-quality resources to educate the future business owners, innovators and leaders of our state.

Please take the time to make your voice heard and save SC DISCUS!
